Not all jellybeans are created equal.
Lemon. Strawberry. Watermelon. Grape. Raspberry. Cotton Candy. Licorice. Chocolate. The flavours go on and on. Then there are different types, which all have different textures.
Jelly Bellys are small and smooth, the melt-in-your-mouth type.
Then there are the easter jellybeans. Pastel in colour and deceptively delicious-looking from the outside. But usually they are granular, and the sooner you swallow them: the better.
I like to think of copywriting and writing services the same way.
I am not EVERYONE's favourite writer. If I was, I am pretty sure I would currently be lounging oceanside in a ridiculously beautiful beautiful tropical locale with my most recently published novel in one hand and a Margarita in the other. But seeing as I am not....
I can claim instead, to be SOME people's favourite. And why?
Because they like the texture of my copy. Because it suits their taste. The message is easily digested. They feel a delicious sense of satisfaction with the message they are about to deliver to their customers.
And mostly, because the project was a good fit.
But I have to tell you: it's not going to be the case for every single project in every single industry. Some writers are great at technical writing, but totally lost when it comes to a travel brochure. Others thrive on descriptive narrative, while some know real estate language like the back of their hand. The key is finding the right one for the project.
At the end of the day, it comes down to sampling. You need a taste test shall we say. Maybe it's a conversation. Maybe it's a face to face meeting. Or a small trial project.
And then you'll know. You just will.
Because like jellybeans, not all copywriters are created equal.
